My newest obsession is Texas Hold 'em. I played in a neighborhood tournament a month or so ago and got hooked. Its a true test...strategy, quick thinking, math calculations, mood swings and blind luck (sounds like a day at the office, huh?).
Its all over TV. ESPN has the World Series of Poker; the Travel Channel has the World Poker Tour (my personal favorite!); Celebrity Poker hits a number of channels as well.
Does anyone have any info on the ratings of these shows? Poker and gambling are definately pushing mainstream and there are plenty of people that don't think its a good thing. Internet gambling is making almost as much money as porn and the availability to children is concerning (glad I didn't play poker in college....).
Leave me a comment if you have any info on the TV ratings of these poker shows.
***UPDATE on 10/11/04*** [read] a write up on Poker on ESPN. Article includes some ratings info as well.

Too funny...all we ever watch anymore...my PDR is loaded with hours of WPT and the balckjack equivalent...Mary is asking for a trip to Vegas real soon...I agree it is very addicitive and lots of fun to watch...ratings have to be high and I heard somewhere that it is actually driving a large surge in casino traffic...

Shreveport, here come the Glover's! I don't know how many Hold 'em tables the casinos have though? Seems like it could be expensive to play in a casino though.
I like the tournaments with $20 - $50 buy ins the best!
