What if...? #5
Week 5 of the What if...? Monday feature. Leave your comment below and be a part of the conversation.
What if you had to re-interview for your job?
Some of you may of already had to do this due to a merger, takeover or downsize. What I am really getting at is self-reflection, not necessarily justification.
I have interviewed a number of candidates for different positions over the last few months and it got me thinking about my own job. Are there any areas of your current responsibilities that you need to improve or seek out help? Are there skills that you possess that are better than your competition?
What makes you stand out and what results have you generated? Are you executing the tactics necessary for the overall strategic plan of your department/company?
If you're not sure, get answers. You wouldn't walk into an interview without information on what was expected of the job, would you?

EXCELLENT!!!! What a terrific question to help all of us to FOCUS or perhaps RE-FOCUS on the activites that we must do and do well if we are tro be successful. If you want to know if you have a clearly defined job then do this... (by the way this will be a topic on my blog this week) Pretend you are a social gathering and you run into an old friend, that friend says to you, so tell me, what is it htat you do for a living? You have to answer his question but lets face it it's a social gathering so you have to condense your answer into about 45 seconds to maybe 1 1/2 min. Think you can do it? try it? good luck. look for this on my blog later this week.

Matt,
Good point and litmus test on responsibilities and clarification.
I'm responsible for my radio station's revenue. I help sales people help client's solve their marketing needs through our station's assets.
I'm also responsible for developing our sales people be the best they can be.
Can I get you another beer?
