What if you could choose between an Apple of Microsoft PC computer for free?
I'm seriously considering switching to Apple for my next home computer; so, let me throw it out to you. If it cost you nothing, which platform would you choose and why?

I have heavily considered getting the Mini Mac as a secondary machine. My dad, a longtime PC user(my mom has been a longtime Apple user) got one recently after a lot of experience using my mom's Apple computers. He has really enjoyed the Mini, I think. I don't know that I would want an Apple as my primary machine - I just enjoy PC based computing life too much.
What is it about an Apple that attracts you to potentially make the switch? I don't get wrapped up with viruses, and all of the things that typically lead users to make the switch, so that has no appeal to me.

Not even close.... Apple.
The one challange I do have though is Quicken. I still do not run Quicken on the Mac, I use a PC for it... But, outside of that, I highly recommend the Mac.

I can promise you it won't be a decision you regret to go to a mac. I just think the interface is much more user friendly and the OS is much more stable. The applications work independent of each other so if one crashes the whole system doesn't crash. And for the PC geeks, like my husband, there is a unix terminal.
If you love music, photos, and videos, then the mac is perfect with it's iLife programs. You don't have to be an expert to put together a pretty neat iMovie of stills or video with music from iTunes. The iCal is a lifesaver for me. You can subscribe to outside calendars as well. I have the Texas A&M football calendar on mine.
I don't have any problems sending documents from Appleworks to PC users. You can convert to Word and Excel formats.
The Mac mini is nice. Make sure you think about what you will use it for. You may not need a G5 but might want more than the mini. If there is an Apple store in Dallas, they will have every product to test out. Good Luck!!!

It would be cool to have a free mac to play around with, especially in terms of video editting and the like. But I think the humble PC still reigns over the mac when it comes to general use and compatibility... plus I'd rather build my own machine and know what's going in it (which can't really be done with a few mac models).
On the other hand, I think Microsoft is dead. They haven't been making any progress especially with their OS - have you seen Vista? ... It's basically XP with some 'fancy features' which they've copied off Apple (such as wow! transparent windows! w00t! (sarcasm))
Bring on GOOGLE OS I say!
