What if...? #37
What if you started mapping out your 2006 goals now?
Pretty simple stuff to think about, but difficult to really get accomplished. I've always discounted the "New Year's Resolutions" because so many set unrealistic and non-measurable goals because of the hype and peer pressure.
But now is the time to take inventory (if you haven't already) of how your 2005 goals are coming along and what you have in store for 2006.
I'm really thinking about my personal goals for 2006 in regards to career development and personal growth right now.
If you don't have written goals for 2005, no problem! You can start now for the rest of the year and 2006. I have a "Goals" section in my Moleskine. I have sections for both Business and Personal goals so I can review them throughout the year.
Measurable, achievable and written! I would love your comments on your suggestions for goal achievement!

Now thats a good question. One everyone should be thinking about. All to often goals are just "in my head" but I have seen too much evidence of the written word. I should write my goals on my whiteboard in my office so they stare me in the face all day long :-) you move towards achieving them faster when they are looking at you and vice versa.
Even if you cant post them in public - I think writing goals down in a place where you frequently look or visit is key to successfully achieving them. Good post, you got me thinking...again... I have to start writing some down!

Your post is a timely one Todd, for in my coaching I find that this is the time of year so many people in business are focusing on goals and objectives for the coming year. The thing is that they are focusing on it because of BUDGET: it’s time to get those forecasts and pro-formas in! While goal-setting with that financial catalyst is better than nothing, and it can be a good thing in terms of better realism with dated business models, the wiser, forward-thinking companies are those who use this time for goals connected to career development, service enhancements, and the customer-responsiveness of product. I urge everyone to get that line item in your budget for “Staff Training and Education” and make the numbers work for it to happen. Then, set your personal goals in learning and personal growth using that cash: connect all the dots. A hui hou, Rosa
