Received my new USA Triathlon packet in the mail today.  I was pretty sure of the new logo as I've seen it on their website, but there was some other new items as well.

Packet contained:
- new "credit card" type membership card
- key chain membership fob
- new logo sticker
- USAT pamphlet

The biggest news though came when I read the back of my new membership card.  I contains your name, city, Member #, expiration and your Race Day Age.

The big change is that your Race Day Age is defined as "Effective January 1, 2006, athletes will compete in the age group corresponding to their age on December 31 of the event year."

Well that small, but dynamic change will alter some age group races for sure!

Not sure I'm used to the new logo yet.  I think I'm still fond of the more defined red/white/blue of the old logo. 

Hmm...I'm sure this will define some "old school" and "new school" triathletes as you see who puts the new logo on their car.

Cold Weather Weekend Workouts

If you are in Texas, especially the D/FW area, you know all about the 60 degree temperature swing this week.  From the mid-80's late in the week to the mid-20's this weekend.

Played havoc with our ride and runs for the weekend not only for the temperatures, but the mist/rain and wind.

Due to the upcoming weather, I got in my longer run from the weekend on Thursday morning (Motionbased workout link).

Saturday morning, I joined Curt, Todd and Dave over at Curt's house (photo) for a morning Spinerval called "Have Mercy".  I only had time for an hour and 15 minutes before heading off to Ryan's Pinewood Derby, but they got in the full 3 hours.

Sunday morning, Matt and I did the Spinerval workout "Mental Toughness".  A good hour and a half workout for sure.

Don't normally like to ride the trainer, but this weekend it was definitely necessary!

Catching Up...kind of

I'm really being pulled in so many directions right now.  I'm not doing a great job of keeping up with my blogging, but I wanted to direct you to a blog I have been updating with more regularity, the H2F2006 (Headed to Florida) blog.

My training is coming along nicely as well as my constantly tweaking of nutrition and protein.

January in Review and Goal Progress

Here's a recap of training during January and the progress I'm making towards my goals.

Swim:  15,200 yards
Bike:  300.5 miles
Run:  81 miles

Nutritional Goals - Weight (Body Fat%)
1/1/06:  171.4 (19.0%)
1/31/06:  169.0 (15.0%)
Goal Weight:  160
Goal BF%:  10%

Weight is down <1%, but BF% is down 21%, which I am very pleased. 

I'm eating on average 6 meals a day and also some protein before I go to bed.  Protein intake is between 160-175 grams a day.

Swim Goals
Goal is 1:35/1:40 100y

Swim technique is my biggest challenge at this time. 

I have 3 main bad points in my form:

• head placement isn't "down" enough
• entry point of my hands are across the midpoint of my body
• improper pull all the way through my stroke

I'm working on this technique with drills consistently.  Learning proper technique and form in swimming is so much like golf to me.  I'll have great drills and then during a swim, I don't "feel" comfortable and go back to my bad habits.  Just need to continue to work on it and not get frustrated.  Good thing there isn't a golf club I could throw during my swim workouts......
