I was on my way to the Disco Triathlon this morning at 430am. Heading North on I-35, I was rear ended while driving in the middle lane of the highway.
I was on the phone with Matt when I saw the headlights in my rear view mirror, milliseconds before getting hit. If you aren't aware, I keep my bike on a rack behind my Xterra, so yes, my bike was hammered...
The crazy thing about this morning, is that the dude that smacked me fled. Fortunately, I was able to nail his license plate number and 911 was able to get police to help. They caught the guy and he ended up getting cuffed for DWI and fleeing the scene of an accident.
I feel for this kid because he was probably in his late teens, maybe 20 years old. Just a very stupid mistake. Consequences. They happen.
Thank God this kid didn't kill himself or injure anyone on the road. I really think he fell asleep and ended up finding the back of my car and my bike to wake him up. Suck.
Of course, thank goodness everyone is safe with no injuries. Just my broken heart of seeing my rig screwed up, including the new rear race wheel...
Hmm...new wheel, bike rack and possible bike in my future.
Everyone keep safe out there. The rest of the world isn't waking up at 4am to go train or race. They may just be heading home after a long night of drinking.
Be safe and keep your mobile phones ready.
