***Read the How to Get Started Intro First***
Swim. Bike. Run. Pretty simple, huh?
Be careful. Everything about triathlon is addictive. The training. The gear. The materials to read. The stores. All of it.
It takes discipline. You have to be a little bit of a "freak" (or a lot). Most everyone I've met through this sport is extremely goal oriented. You generally always feel like you don't know enough, could always improve and need some type of new gear to either help you improve or add to your collection of "must haves".
It becomes a part of you like no other "exercise routine". Its a passion. I liken the sport mostly to golf.
You can never have the perfect race (or round, like in golf). There is always someone better than you that you can learn from. Technique is extremely important to all aspects of the three sports (I need the most help with my swim!).
You can build amazing relationships with your training partners and sometimes you will feel just training for a triathlon is as fulfilling as actually competing in a triathlon race. I am fortunate to belong to a great club called Dallas Athletes. I've built some great friendships through training and I can't imagine not having these friends push me, hold me accountable and share in the love of the sport.
If you have a Triathlon club in your area, make sure you check them out and get involved. It really is "the more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it".
Now that you have a small idea of what's in store for you, let's get into the gear you'll need.
