Van Halen hit Dallas for possibly the last time Saturday night (9/25/04). Overall, the show was killer! The best way for me to explain it is to list what I didn't like, because as big of a VH freak as I am, the rest was fantastic!
Could of done without:
#1 Playing Human's Being. Who cares about this song? I guess the guys do, but it was a stop down to me.
#2 Sammy playing his "Capricorn" and "Eagle's Fly" songs solo. We all know Sammy has a life outside of Van Halen, but during the Van Halen show, I'm not interested!
#3 Opening with "Jump". I know...I'm a purist and this is the song that sealed VH's mass appeal audience, but come on! I guess it could of been a lot worse and they could of played "You're No Good"...
#4 Seeing Eddie drunk and not being able to understand him. I've idolized this guy since 1978, so of course I'm setting myself up for failure, but I hated seeing him this way.
#5 Eddie not playing one of his "Frankenstein" guitars. He started the show with one of his eBay Charvels (the black and yellow one). Played 2 other Peavey Wolfgang models, but didn't once bring out any of his red/white/black striped guitars. Really suprised me because he has a Wolfgang painted up this way and its obvious he likes playing them.
I'm sure I could nit pick the show to death, but I was in heaven. The highlight of the show for me was hearing them nail "Unchained". Its the best song they ever recorded, so hammering it out live is pure greatness for me.
Get to the show. You may never see them live again!
